In 2017, the River Shipping Company carried out a unique transportation by water along the Sozh River of two metal span structures (trusses) for bridge construction from the city of Krichev to the city of Slavgorod.
Five tugboats and two specially converted non-self-propelled barge platforms were used for the transportation. The waterway distance was 122 km.
Along the route, there was not only a road bridge in the city of Cherikov, but also 9 air corridors with 13 overhead power lines, some of which were temporarily dismantled due to the significant dimensions of the trusses, while others were raised by towers. The Cherikov road bridge was passed with a minimal clearance from the transported structures, which caused an admiring reaction from local residents.
Dimensions of the transported trusses
The dimensions of the transported trusses are truly impressive — the length, height and width of each were 84, 14.2 and 8.8 meters respectively, with a weight of 235 tons each.
Such transportation of oversized and heavy equipment by water became possible only thanks to the cohesive work of the River Shipping Company team (at that time the Belarusian River Shipping Company) and above all the Ship Crews and Navigators.
